The creative idea comes from a love of nature and an attachment to the histories of the people who have wandered our North American continent.

I use a deep red clay body. I use every tool at my disposal. The techniques of slab, molds (my own), impressed design, thrown, hand building and manual manipulation are worked and combined until the idea has been transformed into the sculpture. It is burnished to a sheen while leather-hard and bisque fired after it has dried completely. There is a fire pit in my yard. I put a layer of sand in the bottom and stack the pieces in and around each other layering green refuse, wood chips and anything burnable that will leave an interesting design during the second fire. It fires for a fairly short time and then it is covered to smoke. When this part of the process is finished and the pottery has cooled completely, the pieces are cleaned and polished. The process is complete.
